Hi guys,
We have a really amazing podcast for you today.
βBecoming very famous and successful is its own form of acting outβ says Patrick Cox and this got me thinking for days.
Patrick Cox was super famous. I bought his shoes to be cool. When I went partying as a teenager, I danced in Patrick's βWannabesβ. Patrickβs shoes made you belong to the so called cool Britannia in the β90s, the band Oasis wore them, glamorous DJs and rockstars, cool Londoners, the cool nightlife world wore them. More than that. The whole fashion world, worldwide, liked Patrickβs fashion taste.
Patrick was a design superstar, his nickname, Janet Jackson gave it to him, was Party Pat. And Party Pat had everything. Close celebrity friends like Elton John, lots of money, charm, party stamina, talent, humor. And so on.
Until these things turned out to only cover up his old trauma, the one that he experienced at age 4. Patrick βParty Patβ never thought about this time in his life anymore.
But a few years ago, Patrick lost everything, his company and his ability to ignore the old trauma with his certified tools: traveling, partying and ignoring. So he tried everything, to save his mental health. He started with rehab and the Hoffmann Process. But nothing worked. He even told his friends about a possible suicide.
βPeople who hash-tagged gratitude used to drive me crazy, I was like what do they have to be so grateful for? Also, someone in therapy told me the longest road is from the head to the heart and I was like, what the hell does that mean?β says Patrick.
Before it was too late, he found toad venom, aka 5 Meo-DMT. Toad venom is found in the poison of Bufo alvarius, a toad native to the Sonoran desert in Mexico. Since these toads are endangered these days, there is also a synthetic version of 5 MEO-DMT helping to save the toads. But the effect is as powerful as the natural version.
After a few experiences, Patrick said, he didnβt hate himself anymore. He found out there was nothing wrong with him and he realized his childhood trauma had affected him all along. The only question was, who would he be now? What person was he after Party Pat had gone?
βInstead of people telling me what to do, the toad just showed me.β says Patrick.
Patrick and I talk about
how an intervention from Elton Johns feels like
how alcohol lost itβs so called cool, why heavy partying and depression are siblings
how generation X never learned anything about healing
how trauma, you have experienced so long ago, will catch up with you, even if you have everything you think you should have
I hope you enjoy this episode. It means a lot to me.
See you next week with our selection of Christmas presents!
Anne
